Description

Description: Rococo style cream jug with charming images of a house and garden in cut beaded rim.  Well cast rolled acanthus cap double scroll handle, rolled and turned at end.  The decorations retain much of their original hand chased detail. This is a lovely extremely well crafted piece, by an excellent maker, in very good condition.

Dimensions: Length 10cm/4.0″ tip of spout to handle. Width 5.2cm/2″ at base. Height 11.5cm/4.5″.

Marks: The makers mark on this piece is rubbed but “TS” is visible and legible on inspection, indicating Thomas Shepherd, a maker who’s work is dated between 1770 and 1776  (registered Dec 1769).  The date letter indicates 1774 and the hallmark is London.
