Description
An antique diamond bar brooch in 15ct and 18k gold.
A finely made antique diamond bar brooch dating from the early 20th century, crafted in 15ct yellow gold and 18k white gold. This bar is slim in its construction, set with an Old European cut diamond to one side. The hand cut diamond is approximately 0.15 carats – adding just a hint of sparkle to the simple design. Unusually, the diamond setting and face of the brooch are fashioned in 18k white gold, for a nice bright finish.
The brooch closes with a thoughtfully constructed clasp with an additional handmade safety catch – demonstrating a level of quality above that typically found on many bar brooches of this era. It is very neat, measures approximately 2″ in length.
This piece is accompanied by a fitted box that we believe is original from R. McDowell & Co., 14 High Street, Belfast, a Belfast firm of watchmakers, jewellers, silversmiths and opticians operating at this location from around 1910. It is always a delight to come across a piece in a period correct box!
